INFERTILITY
"I had a lot of trouble keeping pregnancies, and subsequently, getting pregnant. When I came to Dr. Calvert, I was exhausted and losing faith after two plus years. She was incredibly constant, steady and intuitive in her perspective with acupuncture. At our first meeting, Dr. Lindsey Calvert immediately put me at ease, clearly explaining to me the basics of acupuncture, and patiently answering all of my questions. Over the next few months, I looked forward to my sessions and found them to be an oasis of calm in the otherwise hellish world of infertility. With her expertise, kindness, and support, our next pregnancy was an overwhelming success: I am now well into my second trimester and feeling great! I could not recommend Lindsey more highly, and hope every woman who has trouble getting or staying pregnant will consider acupuncture as a viable option. Lindsey is a great practitioner. We'll be going back when we're ready to try for another baby." -Anonymous

LOW BACK PAIN, HEARTBURN, & SMOKING CESSATION
I started coming in because I was having low back pain. With receiving regular chiropractic adjustments it greatly helped my low back and right shoulder. I also started to notice that it helped with my heartburn. Months later, after beginning treatment, I decided that I wanted to try and quit smoking. I had been a regular smoker for over 40 years and my medical doctor recently recommended that I quit smoking. Dr. Lindsey recommended that I try acupuncture. Immediately I noticed a drastic decrease in the number of cigarettes I was smoking a day. I find that acupuncture decreases my craving to have another cigarette and also helps to calm me from the stress of trying to quit smoking. ~ Mary Ann
MIGRAINE HEADACHES
My daughter is eight years old and has been suffering from migraine headaches for three years now. The headaches cause severe pain and vomiting for hours on end. When we first visited the clinic, Dr. Lindsey adjusted her and she also was given acupuncture. I am so relieved that we found Maplewood Wellness Center as the doctors are caring and knowledgeable about what they do and are there to improve quality of life.
Thank you, Dr. Lindsey, for your care and concern for my daughter. It is really changing all our lives!!! ~ Kathy

HOT FLASHES & NIGHT SWEATS
At 54, I have been experiencing the many symptoms of menopause for the past 4-5 years. The most troublesome have been the hot flashes and night sweats. Through my chiropractor, I learned that acupuncture has successfully provided relief of these side effects for many women. I began receiving treatments twice a week and after the first week I started to see results. Within two months the hot flashes and night sweats have all but disappeared. I now experience uninterrupted sleep and wake up feeling rested and have the energy to get through the day. ~ Dana

I am a 55 year-old post menopausal woman who has experienced frequent and sometimes debilitating hot flashes. My hot flashes began around age 49 when I was peri-menopausal and they continued to become more numerous and intense as I approached menopause. During this time, I was absolutely miserable and ready to try most any treatment to find relief from my symptoms.
Being diagnosed as having fibrocystic breast disease and also having had a benign breast tumor biopsy makes me less than an ideal candidate for HRT. Instead, I tried supplements including soy, black cohosh, and bio-identical progesterone creams. None of these were very effective in combating my "flashes." After a consultation with my family physician, he prescribed a very low dose of the drug, Effexor. Effexor is an antidepressant that has been proven effective in reducing hot flashes by up to 50% in many women. A 50% reduction in my case was a success story.
Recently, however, after utilizing the drug for more than three years, I felt it was time to discontinue this therapy. Halting the use of Effexor takes no small effort. With my doctors supervision I reduced the dosage taken each day until I was down to zero, over a period of two weeks. Please beware! The side effects of stopping the Effexor, at least for me, were dreadful. I experienced brain shivers, brain fog, mood swings, headaches, and at times, double vision. It was an unpleasant experience and one I do not wish to repeat. It can take weeks or, as some studies now show, months to be rid of all the side effects from stopping this drug therapy.
Presently, on top of going through withdrawal from this drug, my hot flashes began to multiply and intensify. I didn't savor the thought of resuming the Effexor therapy, instead, I turned to acupuncture for relief. I continue to have hot flashes and most likely will continue to have them for years. However, the good news is that after three weeks of acupuncture treatment, I am having fewer and less perceptible occurrences now than I did while taking the anti-depressant. The great news is that there are no side effects and no withdrawal associated with the acupuncture therapy. ~ Shelly N.

NUMBNESS & PAIN
For the past year, I have not been myself. I've had major pain in my neck, shoulder, and lower back. I was fatigued and really only worked and slept. My family doctor ran every test possible and could find nothing out of the normal. I went to physical therapy, but only found myself in more physical pain. I'd often leave physical therapy in tears, because I had so much pain. I saw a rheumatologist that diagnosed me as having benign hyper-mobility joint syndrome. Which means that I am more flexible than most. He gave me some pain medicine and really provided no more insight. I took the pain medicine, but still had a great deal of pain.
About six months ago, the left side of my face went numb. My doctor tried to treat me for a migraine. The treatment had no effect on the numbness in my face. As the doctor had no idea what was going on, he sent me in for an MRI. The MRI came back normal. Our next option was to see a Neurologist. We scheduled an appointment, which was three months out. My family doctor mentioned that maybe a chiropractor might relieve some of my pain.
A friend suggested that I give Maplewood Wellness Center a try. I went in and had one adjustment. About three hours after the adjustment, the feeling in my face came back. In the weeks that followed, I could feel my old self coming back. I've had much more energy and have been able to enjoy time with my friends and family. I have sense canceled the appointment with the Neurologist, as I have no symptoms.
I've been to other chiropractors in the past. They often want you to come twice a week and don't adjust you on your first three office visits. Lindsey adjusted me and I felt better after only one office visit. She asked me to come back in two weeks and we are working up to only needing one visit per month.
Lindsey is very personable and really cares about you as a whole person. I would recommend her services to anyone and tell everyone I know how much better I feel. I am very thankful to have found Maplewood Wellness Center. ~L.Y.
