Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy relieves pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves following an injury or simply after years of wear-and-tear on the spine.  The task of relieve pain comes about as a result of drawing areas of herniated disc back into place, reducing nerve and tissue irritation.

Decompression achieves this by creating negative pressure within the disc, referred to as negative intra-discal pressure.  This creates, essentially, a vacuum to draw the bulging and herniated disc material back into the disc space and relieve pressure.

As the ligaments that hold disc material in place become stretched or torn due to bulging and herniation, decompression strengthens the ligament bands that hold the disc material in place to heal and prevent future recurrence.

Each treatment plan that takes into consideration the severity of the condition, the level of risk, and the accompanying factors and complexities involved.  A typical treatment is spread over several weeks or months.  While many patients experience relief within a few sessions, it is important to follow the prescribed treatment plan for maximal healing and relief.
