About Our Clinic...
Q. What services do you offer at Maplewood Wellness Center?
We are proud and excited to offer chiropractic, acupuncture, spinal decompression therapy, massage, and esthetics all in one convenient location. We hope that you will look to us as your "one stop health shop!"
An area of focus in our practice has become infertility. Dr. Calvert-Downey is constantly taking continuing education courses and studying up-to-date literature about all aspects of fertility. She works hard to stay well aware of available treatments, both medical and natural.
Dr. Calvert-Downey is also one of only three doctors in Central Iowa that are certified spinal decompression therapy practitioner. This means better results, faster recovery, and peace of mind that you are being cared for with the latest information and technology!
Q. Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. We are always happy to bring new patients into the clinic.
Q. Does insurance pay for the available services?
Yes. No. And sort of. Insurance is complicated. The majority of insurance plans do offer chiropractic benefits. Benefits vary for each company and plan, but we are happy to work with your insurance to determine exactly how many visits and what your out-of-pocket expense may be.
At this time, for the majority of plans, acupuncture and spinal decompression is not covered.
If you have Flex spending or HSA, you may utilize these to cover chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage treatments.
Currently, we accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield Alliance Select (PPO), United Healthcare, AETNA, CIGNA, Principal, Midland's Choice, Medicare, Medicaid, Worker's Compensation, Personal Injury, and several smaller policies. We are always happy to determine if we are considered "in-network" with your policy or determine if your plan has out-of-network benefits.
If you are unable to utilize insurance, we have made our fees reasonable and affordable to fit into nearly everyone's budget.
Q. Do you provide treatment on the first visit?
The majority of patients are treated on the first visit.
Q. Do you take x-rays on every patient?
No. We generally do not take x-rays unless a patient is not responding to care within a reasonable amount of time, or that patient has a complicating factor that would deem x-rays necessary to determine if they are physically safe to adjust. We do not have x-ray facilities on-site, but work closely with Iowa Radiology for same day studies to be performed.
Q. How long should I allow for my first visit?
Please allow approximately 30-45 minutes your first appointment. It is helpful to come 10-15 minutes before your initial scheduled appointment to fill out paperwork. Subsequent appointments will take approximately 20-30 minutes.
Q. Where are you located?
Our clinic is conveniently located at 4949 Pleasant Street, Suite 101 in West Des Moines. Pleasant Street is the first left turn after passing over the I-235 bridge, traveling south on 50th. We are the second office building on the left. The main sign out front is titled, "West 50th Place III." Should you need directions, please call us.
Q. How can I schedule an appointment?
